re: rinderwurst memories
Misc.Good luck with your experiments! I look forward to hearing how close this recipe is to what you remember.
A relative who lives in Illinois buys rinderwurst in a local butcher shop located in a town where some of our relatives settled. So we think it may be very close to "the real thing." Once the weather gets colder, she is going to ship some to me, so I can modify my recipe to make it match. I will post my changes here.
I've heard that some of our relatives served crumbled, fried (but soft) rinderwurst on buttered home-made bread that had been smeared with home-made jam. And then they drizzled real maple syrup over it!
My great aunt remembers walking home from school on cold winter days as a child in Tripoli. Her mother greeted her with rinderwurst on buttered home-made bread for lunch. I think she mentioned that it had syrup on it, too.
My great aunt spoke so fondly of those lunches and how the rinderwurst warmed her tummy for the cold walk back to school and kept her warm all afternoon.
Rinderwurst is a lovely connection to our "roots"!
