Recipe(tried): Breakfast 'Mac and Cheese'
Breakfast and BrunchThis is a recipe my Mom used to make for my sister and me growing up on cold winter mornings, as an option in place of oatmeal, farina, or cream of wheat.
Breakfast 'Mac and Cheese'
2 servings
From: Pam Wagner
1 cup pastina (I can only find Ronzoni brand here in Gator Town)
2 cups water
1/2 tsp salt
1 TBS butter
4 slices American cheese, torn into pieces
milk, to taste (optional)
In a 2 quart saucepan combine pastina, water and salt. Bring to a boil, cover and turn down heat to a simmer.
Simmer until nearly all water is absorbed, about 5-10 minutes.
Leaving on simmer, stir in butter. Add torn Amercian cheese, one slice at a time, stirring until melted.
(My sister prefers her cheese more obvious, so she stirs it in off the heat to leave a few lumps)
Serve in two bowls. I like to add milk to mine, stirring it in until almost a soupy consistancy, but Paul, Beorn and my sister all prefer it without the milk. Paul even likes put brown sugar into his. :::shudder:::
