EASY BARBECUE SAUCE
1 cup water
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup canola oil
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon honey
2 dashes of Tabasco sauce
1 onion, finely chopped
4 cloves of minced garlic
2 cups of ketchup
1/3 cup of dark brown packed sugar or molasses
1 tablespoon of chili powder
1 tablespoon of ground cumin
Jalapeno pepper, chopped and seeds removed (optional)
Combine water, vinegar, oil, Worcestershire, lemon juice, honey and Tabasco. Add onion, garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, chili powder, cumin and jalapeno.
Pour the mixture into a saucepan and bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer about 15 minutes until it thickens.
Strain the sauce to remove the bits of garlic and onion and adjust seasonings to taste. This sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
