My Grandma grew up with these cookies. After moving to the West Coast from North Dakota she could never find the Rockwood Mints. As long as I can remember she substituted a Junior Mint. I have never had the original, so I don't know how this compares. But, my family has always loved this variation. They are unique and you don't find them duplicated at cookie exchanges. Be sure and tuck the Jr. Mint in the middle really well, it still oozes out, but that's what makes it taste so yummy. I have never seen them with a walnut on top.
