Hi Everybody,
By now you are probably familiar with that old saying, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach"...I first heard it as a teenager and it proved extremely handy in making my first dinner for DH when we first started dating. I wanted to make him a dinner so I simply asked him what his favorite meal was. I was hoping he would answer Pot Roast or Meat Loaf or even a Lasagna but he replied, "Tuna Wiggle". Lord, I had never heard of that terminology. So I asked him, Tell me what is in it", from his description it sounded like Tuna a la King or Tuna Casserole.
It seems in New England, anything in a cream sauce with peas is called a Wiggle. It can be Shrimp Wiggle or Tuna Wiggle or even Chicken Wiggle. This was not in my cooking repertoire.
I remember asking my aunt Grace how to make it and I made it for him on a special night. The only thing I did wrong was serve it on toast points instead of on a bed of crushed saltines. Well, the rest is history, I got my man!!! He just loved that Tuna Wiggle and the fact I could whip it up in less than 10 minutes. This is my DH favorite, and I do mean, all-time favorite meal. It is what he requests for his birthday meal, for crying out loud!! I do not partake of this particular meal simply because I am one of those people that likes tuna in a sandwich. The children didn't like it either...but I understand there are many people out there who love Tuna Casserole.
What particular dish did you prepare for your beloved while you were dating and how did it go?
Keep safe and happy....Gina
~~~~~~~~~TUNA WIGGLE~~~~~~~~~~
serves 2
1 can of solid white tuna, drained well
1 can of green peas, drained well
1 c. milk
1 pat of butter
salt and pepper to taste
3 T. cornstarch
1 packet of saltines
Heat milk with butter til butter melts. Mix some of the milk in a cup with the cornstarch to make a watery paste and whisk into the hot milk mixture. It will be a white cream sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Flake the tuna in and add the peas, stir to blend gently. Heat thoroughly. Crush lots of saltines on a plate and top with the Tuna Wiggle.
