ISO: Welsh Cookie Variations from Scranton

Another post from a former Scrantonian (Greenridge). My Welsh mother (RIP) made these Welsh cookies and for thirty years I have forgotten about them. Took a trip to Wales, a number of years back and found them for sale at a reststop on a highway.
I found lots of recipes for the cookies similar to my mother's, but was wondering if anyone had any "secret ingredients" they add to make them perhaps a little more moist. Saw the foodtv recipe that adds a little buttermilk. How about sour cream? Does anyone have a recipe that adds any mystery ingredients?
I'll always appreciate the traditional recipe, but would love to try a little variation now and again.
