re: Cornish Pasties

Misc.
Hi

I love TKL, a great source of inspiration for feeding a very fussy Cornishman! Just a little bit more info for you re Pasties.
They were indeed original 'take-out' food for tin miners in Cornwall. They had the savory meat filling one end and maybe a sweet filling (jam, apple etc) the other. They also had a thick twisted edge which we call the Crimp. The miners held the pasty by the crimp to stop arsenic (naturally occuring along with tin deposits) from their hands getting on the pasty and possibly poisoning them. The crimp was then thrown (as thanks) to the "Knockers" (spirits/pixies) who lived in the mines and kept the miners safe from roof falls etc. Hopefully they were immune to the arsenic :-)

I hope Gladys is ok after her check up from the Doctor.
