Apple:
Pare and slice (they don't have to be neat, even slices) about a pound of apples. Heat a tablespoon of butter in a skillet. Add the apples. Saute until they start to brown and soften. Add about a half cup of water, 1/4 cup brown sugar, dash of nutmeg, and a half teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir and cook for a minute.

Pineapple:
Drain the juice from a 14 oz can of crushed pineapple into a saucepan. Heat. Mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a half cup of cold water. Add the slurry gradually to the hot juice, using enough to thicken the juice. Remove from heat. Stir in the reserved pineapple.
