Heavenly Hamburger Bake

8 slices bread
1 Tablespoon butter
pound ground beef
cup diced onion
2 Tablespoons diced celery
2 Tablespoons catsup
8 slices American cheese
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spread 4 slices of the bread lightly with butter and arrange in bottom of an 8-inch square baking dish. Toast lightly about 15 minutes in 350 degree F. oven. Brown meat with onion and celery. Mix in catsup. Spread meat mixture over toasted bread. Lay slices of cheese on top of meat and cover with remaining bread slices to make sandwiches. Combine egg & milk and pour over bread. Bake at 350 degrees F. about 40 minutes.
