WHOLE WHEAT ROLLS

1 1/3 cups milk
1/4 cup shortening
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 packages dry or 2 cakes compressed yeast
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup flour
3 cups whole wheat flour
Scald milk; reserve 1/3 cup and cool to lukewarm. Add shortening, sugar and salt to hot milk; stir well and set aside to cool.
Dissolve yeast in the 1/3 cup lukewarm milk.
Add eggs and yeast to sugar mixture. Add flours, working in white flour, then whole wheat flour. Work well with a spoon, but do not knead. Cover and set aside to rise.
When double in size, punch down, knead and shape into rolls. Place in lightly greased pans or baking sheets. Let rise to double in size.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes in 400 degree F oven.
