Recipe: Glazed Quick Apple Bread (using chopped apple, 9x5 loaf, 1960's)

2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup finely chopped raw apples (do not peel)
1/4 cup chopped nuts
Powdered Sugar Glaze (recipe follows)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly greased a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.
Cream shortening and gradually add sugar. Add vanilla and eggs and beat until fluffy. Add milk, apples and nuts.
Stir in sifted dry ingredients until blended. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F) for 1 hour. Cool.
Pour glaze over cooled bread letting it drip down the sides and allow to "set."
Wrap tightly for storage in waxed paper. For better flavor and easier slicing, make the bread the day before it is to be served.
POWDERED SUGAR GLAZE
1/2 cup powdered sugar 1 tablespoon water
2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
Combine all ingredients and beat thoroughly.
Makes 1 (9x5-inch) loaf
