Biscotti della Regina (Queen's Sesame Seed Biscuits)
From: JUDI M. PHELPS
Source: The Sicilian Gentleman's Cookbook by Don Baratta
Yield: 1 1/2 dozen
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/8 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 cup milk
1/2-cup sesame seeds
Blend together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Add butter, cutting in the pieces with a knife or cutter. Stir in egg and then stir in milk, a tablespoon at a time.
Use well-floured board. Roll out dough, working with a quarter of the dough at a time. Roll by hand until you have a long roll about 5/8-inch in diameter. Cut this into pieces 2 to 3-inches long. Roll each piece in sesame seeds so that entire surface is covered.
Place each piece on a well-greased cookie sheet about 3/4-inch apart. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 15 minutes until golden brown. Remove and cool 5 minutes and then transfer to cooling rack.
