Appetizers and SnacksSESAME DRUMETTES WITH HONEY-GINGER DIPPING SAUCE

Makes about 24 drumettes
This was one of the most popular items on my catering menu. Drumettes are the leg portion of a chicken wing, and you can buy them packaged in the supermarket. They have a convenient 'handle', making then: a perfect appetizer for dipping. I would also serve sugar snap peas alongside, which are wonderful dipped in the sauce as well.
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1/2 cup canola oil
1/4 cup sherry
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
2 pounds chicken drumettes
DIPPING SAUCE:
1/2 cup sesame tahini
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 to 2 tablespoons apple or orange juice
In a skillet toast the sesame seeds for 5 minutes over medium high heat until brown. Set aside.
In a medium bowl mix together the oil, sherry, honey, lemon juice, soy sauce, and garlic, and blend well. Stir in the sesame seeds.
Place the drumettes in a shallow glass dish and pour the marinade over. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Remove from the refrigerator and discard the marinade.
Broil drumettes for 7 minutes on each side or until done. Allow to cool.
TO MAKE THE DIPPING SAUCE:
In a blender mix the tahini, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, and ginger. Process until smooth. Add enough apple or orange juice to thin it to dipping consistency, keeping in mind that it will thicken a lot when it is chilled. Makes 1 cup
