This recipe is adapted from Holidays 'a la carte. This cookie dough can be made into drop, formed or bar cookies. The recipe gives no time or temperature for baking the cookies.
Three-Way Orange Spice Cookies
4 cups sifted flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup Karo light or dark corn syrup
1 cup Nucoa or Mazola margarine
4 teaspoons grated orange rind
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2 eggs
Orange Butter icing
Sift flour, sugar and soda together.
Combine corn syrup, margarine, orange rind and spices in saucepan; bring to a boil over medium heat.
Beat eggs in large bowl; stir in hot mixture slowly. Stir in flour mixture, all at once; blend well. This batter may be used for drop, formed or bar cookies.
For Drop Cookies:
Drop batter onto greased cookie sheet by teaspoonfuls 1 inch apart.
For Formed Cookies:
Shape well-chilled batter into 1/2-inch balls or roll out and cut with cookie cutter.
For Bar Cookies:
Squares may be made by spreading batter in 2 greased jelly roll pans. Bake until done.
(Bake at 350 degrees F?)
Frost as desired with Orange Butter Icing.
Orange Butter Icing
2 Tablespoons margarine
1 cup confectioner's sugar
1 Tablespoon orange juice
1 tablespoon Karo light or dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
Few grains of salt
Melt margarine in small saucepan; remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients' beat until smooth.
