Recipe: Woman's Day Molasses Crinkles (using whole wheat flour and wheat germ)

3/4 cup margarine, softened
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
1/4 cup unsulphured molasses
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cup whole wheat flour
FOR TOPPING:
sugar
blanched almonds
Stir together margarine and brown sugar. Add the eggs and stir well. Mix in the molasses and wheat germ. Sift in all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda and spices, stirring until blended; add whole wheat flour. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Form into balls the size of a walnut. Dip in sugar. Top each with an almond. Put on greased cookie sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
Makes 62 cookies
