BASIC BUTTERBALL BBQ SAUCE
1 cup ketchup
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon hot sauce
1 pinch salt
1 pinch ground black peppe
Mix together all ingredients.
REGIONAL FLAVOR VARIATIONS:
Follow these directions to create the regional flavor of your choice:
KANSAS CITY KICK:
Add 1/4 cup molasses, 1 dash mace, 1 dash ginger, 1 dash cayenne pepper, and 1 teaspoon chili powder.
THROW A HAWAIIAN STYLE LUAU!
Add a splash of pineapple, mango, or papaya juice and garnish cooked meat with fresh sliced pineapple.
VISIT THE FLORIDA KEYS:
Add prepared Jerk Seasoning and a few tablespoons of spiced rum.
CATCH SOME CALIFORNIA FLAVOR WAVES:
Mix in the juice and zest of 2 oranges and 1 lemon of a West coast zing.
BRING NEW ENGLAND HOME:
Add a tablespoon of real maple syrup and a few dashes of cinnamon and nutmeg.
GO SPICY SOUTHWESTERN STYLE:
Add minced green chiles or jalapeno peppers and some cumin.
THEY LOVE APPLES IN THE NORTHWEST:
Grate a few red delicious apples inot the BBQ sauce, then add a touch of cinnamon and cloves.
Makes about 2 1/2 cups sauce
