FUDGE FROSTING
3 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 teaspoons hot water
Melt chocolate in saucepan over low heat.
Combine sugar, flour and salt with chocolate. Add milk gradually, blending well. Cover saucepan and bring to boil slowly, stirring occasionally. Boil slowly two minutes. Uncover and boil to soft ball stage (232 degrees F.) without stirring.
Remove from heat, add vanilla and butter or margarine. Beat until frosting loses its gloss. Add hot water and continue to beat until right consistency to spread. Spread quickly on cake.
Makes enough frosting to cover top and sides of 2 (8-inch) layers
