Recipe: Michigan Sauce (hot dog sauce, Watertown, NY)

Toppings - Sauces and Gravies
MICHIGAN SAUCE

1 lb. hamburger
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1/2 of an 8 oz. can tomato sauce (or more, as needed)
Salt and pepper (to taste)
1/2 cup ketchup
1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
Ground red pepper (to taste)

Cook hamburger and onion until hamburger is nearly done; drain.

Add tomato sauce, salt, and pepper; heat.

Add ketchup and mustard. Add red pepper to taste, a small pinch at a time. Simmer 10 to 15 minutes. If too thick, add more tomato sauce.

TO SERVE:
Serve on top of hot dog with bun. If desired, add chopped onion and prepared ketchup or mustard to taste.
