Recipe: Butterscotch Apple Dessert

Butterscotch Apple Dessert

2 eggs
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 cups peeled, sliced apples
1 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Beat eggs well. Add 1 1/2 cups sugar gradually and beat until thick and lemon-colored.

Fold in apple slices.

Sift together sifted flour, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Fold into egg mixture with nuts. Pour batter in a greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

Bake 50-60 minutes or until done. Serve warm with the following butterscotch sauce.

Makes 16 servings

Butterscotch Sauce:
2 Tablespoons flour
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 cup light cream
1/3 cup butter or margarine

Combine flour, sugar and brown sugar in top of double boiler. Stir in cream and butter. Cook over simmering water, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
